Week 4 - July 19, 2019

By the time I write next week I will already have been on my mission from over a month! My roommate And I were accidentally locked out of our rooms while we were in the showers twice this week. We were getting quite a few looks as to why we were just wearing towels outside our room (not good as a missionary with sisters walking around all over the place) Elder Mahler and I have gotten pretty good at teaching lessons. We can go in with no planning and just a scripture and have a 15 minute lesson in Spanish pretty well now which is cool. I memorized D&C 4 in spanish. Since week 4 started our teachers now only talk to us in Spanish and it's awesome. The days here go by so fast. The only times they go by slow is when I think about home. This week we got switched to a trio because a kid from our district left to the latino district so now Elder Murdoch from Idaho Falls is with Mahler and I. It turns our Elder Murdochs family are Jewish converts also so we looked up our family trees and it turns out we're related through our Jewish side (super rare according to elder walker) We like a lot of the same stuff so it makes it fun. My Haitian homies Elder Simon and Elder Mompremier left on Tuesday and I was muy triste (sad). The only reason im not going to be sad is because whenever we play volleyball elder simon spikes it on me so hard. We also had something called TRC last Saturday where they bring in real people from the city and we get to talk and share lessons with them. Elder Mahler and I balled out and we could honestly both understand at least 75% of what the people were saying. Murdoch and I have been waking up at 5:30 every morning to go for a run and go to the gym and then after we try to catch a parrot so we can take a picture with it. We haven't caught one yet but you would be surprised the contraptions we have made to try to catch these things. Another good week in the books. Although it sounds like we mess around a lot, I promise we don't. We just take advantage of free time and get all of our jitters out before we step in the classroom and focus on the important stuff.

Spiritual Thought: Something I always struggled with that I have gained a stronger testimony of while I've been out here is the life of Joseph Smith. There will always be critics and people out there who will question the validity of his actions. When I thought about this, I realized that if Joseph Smith was a so called "bad" man, there is no way he could have written a book so full of happiness and Christ centered love as this, and no good man would have the lack of dignity to mislead God's children. All things aside, Joseph Smith was a good man. He put his life on the line - said goodbye to his kids, wife - his entire life and willingly rode off to carthage in defense of the religion that he knew was true. Don't take my word for it though. I promise if you actually read, study, and pray about the book of Mormon, you won't be able to deny of its truthfulness- just like Joseph !

The church is true and plz email me too !

Hasta La manaƱa y Con Amor,

Elder Freedman
